WTB Front & Rear Bumper Rubbers
SebastienPeek - August 13th, 2011 at 02:36 PM

Hey all!

Looking for some bumper rubbers for my bug, hopefully ones that would compliment a German look if possible?

I have stock standard chrome bumpers, they have the indent for rubbers but they're just missing (I never bought the bumpers with them).

They do not have the cutout for the indicators, so the bumper rubber is a complete rubber.

I'm in Adelaide, South Australia 5070.
Send me a PM if you have any!

Hi
the bumper rubbers did not come on Australian or many European cars as they are very expensive..
I can't recall ever seeing them for sale in Australia...

One of the locals years ago bought two KOMBI bumper rubbers and cut them to size...

they are bolted on with cuphead bolts I think...

would like some but a but too expensive for Me...

I think Joel on here has them on His beetle but its a 1303S
Superbug.. blinkers in the bumpers..

Wolfsburg automotive in Victoria may have them.??

It was only 75 and 76 beetles with the turn signal bumpers that had factory rubber impact strips, everything before that just had black electrical tape.

I don't know if you would get a front one thats for non turnsignal bumper, US had them but that was once those huge dodgem car bumpers started so they would be different.

I've got a strip on my back bumper, just really need one for the front.

Went and had a feel of the back one, you're right, it's just some kind of black tape!

Electrical tape is all I've ever used but make sure it's good quality stuff like Nitto.

Cheap shit will peel off and give a just married feel dragging along the road.

i WAS GIVEN SOME PVC TAPE years ago for that purpose

I don't know what it was...

but its been on since 2004...

then again. My car isn't out in the sun very often...

PVC tape that stretches easily I don't think would stay on long... lol

In 1972 the Championship (Marathon) beetle came with the rubber impact strips and the late cabrios have them as well. Others would have as well but obviously not imported to Oz.

I used to have Torana rubbers fitted to my bumpers but I had to drill mounting holes so not a good option. When a neighbour fitted the wide Kombi ones to his Beetle I just had to have them. Was lucky and got a second hand set (expensive) but they are now available new. They have to be shortened and the indent in the Beetle bumper is a lot narrower however I have had the Kombi rubbers on for years without issues. Working out how much to shorten them is a bit of trial and error but worth the effort
