Where can I buy a tool to undo the 12 point CV joint bolts used with a Type 3. The local tool and fastener suppliers have nothin.

You will find this a bugger. I would see your local shop and see if you could borrow just the tool... or Maybe ebay you might be successful.

george had them on the shelf last time i was there

They can also be called
Triple Square
or XZN
They are a very strong type of fastener that is able to be torqued up very high. I would get hold of a driver bit, and slip a spanner over it. Keep it
with the car. I would definitely keep the XZN drive for this application.

Allen key will get you out of trouble if you aren't at your shop. learnt this a long time back
chillihilli - November 25th, 2011 at 02:14 PM
I bought mine from Just Tools in Clarendon St Melbourne for about $20.
http://www.justtools.com.au/
Also buy yourself a cheap a 6mm allen key for the ones that need extra coaxing. Hammer in the allen key and vice grips on the outside should do it..
Lots of WD40.
And if you go through the above, don't forget you'll need a few spare NEW CV bolts and washers to replace the ones you coaxed out Mick Motors or Wolfsburg have em, or you can buy them from most
online bolt shops.
cheers Pete
