WTB: 1200/1300 or 1500 in Adelaide
AyeBee - December 18th, 2011 at 08:40 PM

Looking for a good, running 1200/1300/1500 to replace my current tired 1200 that needs to come out for a rebuild.

Prefer Adelaide area, as I'm lazy and can't be bothered organising freight from interstate

I can ask around for you as I know a few people who have parts but are old timers who are not on the internet.
Before I waste any of my time ringing around can you answer the following questions.

1. 6volt or 12 volt flywheel?
2. will a 1300/1500/1600 be acceptable?
3. Does it have to be complete?
4. Do you want it as is, second hand, warts and all, ready to drop straight in? OR
Would you prefer a motor that has had the flywheel, oil cooler seals replaced, serviced, compression tested and with a warrantee?
5. whats your budget?

Cheers Dave

Hi Dave,

1. 6 Volt flywheel
2. Depends, I've not actually considered more than a 1200, I'd need a new gearbox if I went more than a 1300?
3. Ideally, yes.
4. Second hand is fine, would like it pretty much ready to drop straight in. The second option is nice RE: seals, tested, warranty etc, just not sure that would be in my price range.
5. Realistically a couple of hundred $, I haven't set myself a hard limit at this stage as I don't know what sort of money will buy me what sort of condition motor. I don't have thousands to spend thats for sure. ;-)

But if you asked around, that would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Andy

I will ask around, but for a couple of hundred it is unlikely to be complete and/or it's going to be a lucky dip! You will most likely have to reuse your carby, muffler and generator.
I would insist that a compression test be done, that way you will know how many cylinders are working, and to what efficency. That won't tell you if it's going to use oil, leak oil or blow smoke.
Not sure why you would need to change your gearbox to fit a bigger motor?
Cheers Dave

Open to suggestions Dave for what price I realistically need to spend for a good engine (I'm not after anything hot/to race etc), this car is my weekend car. Am happy to reuse carby/muffler etc, and I have a new alternator and assorted bits for a 12v conversion.

As for gearbox, thought I'd read it somewhere I'd need to change it if I went to a larger engine.

Again, thanks.

The only modification you need to do to the gearbox is if you were to use a 12 volt flywheel, the bell housing needs to be clearanced.
Althought the ratios are different, the gearbox you have will get you off the line quicker and a 1500/1600 gearbox will give you higher top speed. Therefore if you have more power you can push taller gears. No need to replace the gearbox until your ready or you break it
Haven't had too many return my calls, either they have nothing or it's too close to christmas.

Cheers Dave

Thanks for making some calls for me Dave, fingers crossed it's just that it's too close to Christmas.

Cheers,

Bump, still looking for something if anyone has anything suitable.

Happy to pay a bit more $ for the right engine. Keen to hear on places around SA that sell new/reco'd ones too.

Hi give me a call tomorrow I have a complete 1500 that came out of my 68. Took it for A drive around the block before I took It out. Seemed ok then really unknown, but should be fine for an Inbeteeen engine. Cheers Aaron 0415539554
