Hi Danielle,
Is this still set up and running to do compression checks and hear/see it go etc?

Volksdaze - the original rebuild definitely cost me over $5000. I have all original receipts from mechanic who did it.
Isola - It is still in the car for the next week. Then we will be taking it apart as the rest of the car is sold.

I'm not doubting at all that you have receipts for that amount ( i can write you a $5,000 receipt for a pencil ).
I build motors all the time and that is outragious. i even bet you paid for the first tappet set after 500k's as well.
i've done 1776 dual carbs for that.and on a new case

It sucks that they charge that to recondition a 40 year old engine and yet a brand new VW factory crate engine costs $1500 less.
But it's just one of those things you aren't to know usless you shop around.

may we ask who?
or PM...
Mliss - March 24th, 2012 at 07:31 PM
Of coarse i can tell you who rebuilt it.
Volkswagen and Volvo specialists in Salisbury.
The receipts are printed and have all their logos and such all over them.
I understand i wouldnt get anywhere near 5k today. But thats written there so im not getting offers of $200, which i wouldnt doubt i'd receive.
When i got it done i was 18 and I'm female, with no knowledge of cars, not saying mechanics do take advantage of me, but i wouldnt doubt it.
And yeah, i did go back after 500ks.
However i have never been there since, nor would i go back.
