Wanted: junky late 1600 type 2 tin
General_Failure - March 29th, 2012 at 12:45 PM

Does anyone have some junky bits of 1600 late bay tinware. Cracked, ugly, bent, rusty, holed whatever. The sort of thing that would have been swapped out to replace with a nice bit. I'm really just after bits that span from the motor to the engine bay. They'd need alterations anyway so I'm just after the junk really.

For now it has an EA81 at its heart which is a tiny engine. The gaping hole around it bothers me and I want to make something that fills the gap.

I couldn't figure out a decent way to do this with the tin off my 1800 without doing any alterations so I thought I'd look elsewhere.

I'm on the NSW/Vic border in Finley so Perth etc. is probably a little far.

Could you please post here and PM me if you have any bits and pieces, or even any ideas?

hey if it's wrapped around a 1600 that'd be even better  but yeah for now I'm just scavenging for something to make the engine bay look slightly less awful and stop rubbish from getting in / parts from falling out

Thanks,

Tristan.

edit: oops phone number is needed as per rules. 0401337552. best to message me though because reception is pretty poor here. If you want to talk it's best arranged prior because it's a bit busy here.

Do I have to list a price for a wanted? As close to $0 as possible. I'm not after quality tin nor does my budget accommodate for it. A father isn't a great paying job money wise, but it's a good job

youve probably picked the hardest tinware to find , just get some sheet and cut it out , do a cardboard template first

Serious? What happened to it all? unless my memory went wonky I remember a lot of the later bays having a 1600. Hm, it is possible though

stopped in 75 with the 1600 option so 72-74/5 they were pretty common

That's what I thought. I nearly bought a 1600 from a late bay from a VW mech I knew about wow...12 years ago now to replace that bitch of a type 4. I stuck with it though, and it eventually died. Spent far, far too much time and $ trying to get it working right again. It's shelved for now. Not easy for me to concede I may have been defeated.

I'll leave this thread up anyway just in case. I'll also accept a derail into the subject of alternatives. I took another good hard look at the engine bay and realised I have no idea how to fabricate something the shape of the side tins of a late bay. The engine bay interface is all woobly and bringing it to a nice basic straight across looks horrible.
Alright. Anyone have any crappy type 4 tins then? Including the one over the bellhousing? I'm doubly averse to damaging mine because it's got the holes for a 003. Besides the type 4 is down not out. It's sitting dormant in the garage until I can find the will to disassemble it one more time and find out what the hell is still wrong with it internally. It runs okay but there is definitely something "off" with it. I'd happily slap a 1600 in there and call it a day at this point, but I don't have one and I do have an EA81 in there so I figure I might as well make do and address the main concern I have about it.
Before anyone mentions engineering. Just don't. I've covered this elsewhere. It comes down to this. All the planets aligned and my setup doesn't require it. If anything were different it probably would.

I have tinware to put a 1600 into a late bay, but I am up the other end of the state. Might have some one travelling. will keep you posted
