whatever it is called I need the round plate from the bottom of the sump that has the drain plug in it, with a drain plug would be good, trying to
track down a bad oil leak and I think this will help, Newcastle area would be nice

its the sump plate
all early ones had the sump plug, then VW decided to make sure everyone took the plate off to clean the screen inside, so, deleted the plug.
I always use an oil change gasket set which contains the copper rings for the 6 small capnuts and the sump plug washer and 2 gaskets.
That stops most oil leaks from there..
although I always use Permatex on all gaskets to make sure no leaks.
Good idea is to have spare capnuts and studs..
the odd time they do leak, its usually past one of the small copper washers.

It's a service part.
Any vw parts supplier should be able to supply one.
The kit contains a new sump plate, 2 gaskets and new copper washers.

Sounds good Waveman. That's about my approach too.
Once you start helicoil replacements, however, it's best to do them all.
They have all done the same amount of work and a helicoil is going to be stronger than the original thread.
