Yes
people must have had skinny legs back in the 60s & 70s.. lol
I notice Mine hit the steering wheel getting in the car...
the 74 L beetle [super 1303] has a smaller spline than the early cars from memory.. may be the same as early GOLFs

Someone will tell You if i'm mistaken..

I do know my 76 uses the same boss/hub kit as the early Golf's. Not sure how far back the compatibility goes on bugs though ie whether or not it suits a 74 or not.

I can measure the outer diameter of the splines if that helps and get the model number of a Momo boss kit. Momo did have a fitting list online at momousa.com but they've changed their site and I can't find it anymore.

FYI this is the boss kit I ordered last time i was over there http://www.awesomegti.com/brand/momo/momo-hub-kit-mk1-golf-early-mk2-golf-pol...

Momo have loads of steering wheels 350mm dia.

My 74 has the early golf steering wheel boss (Swapped them over one day to confirm).

Just buy an aftermarket wheel, anything from the auto technica to the momo wheels and the boss kit. I got my boss kit from autobarn, but one of the vw shops should also carry them.

Just remember your steering will be heavier with the smaller wheel.

Early 74 was the change over in Aus so they can be either.
everything after that has the smaller taper watercooled VW/Porsche/Audi splines.

Pop the horn pad off and check the steering wheel nut
If its 22mm you have the later taper splines, if its 27mm you have the early big splines.

Is it a Superbug L or a standard flat screen bug?
Lbugs have problems with small steering wheels covering the top of the speedos.
