I'm sure I'll second guess my decision to sell my engine/gearbox combination that I worked my ring off for, but it's going to be 3+ years before
I'll get my barndoor bus body ready for the engine, so I've decided to use the money I've got tied up in this combo in ways my wife and kids can
benefit from rather than just me.....I still have plans to build a big turbo motor closer to when the bus is complete so plans are still on track
there!
Seller: Al (DAS Resto Haus)

Price: $19.5K engine and box or $16K engine alone *Engine and gearbox Sold*
I have around $20K invested in the engine alone thus far - feel free to cost up all the parts below. It is new, never been run and has been built by
one of the US's most well renowned turbo engine builders (Marty Staggs who is now the head of Turbosmart USA). The gearbox has been built by one of
Australia's most recognised box builders (Dave Butler) using a full Albins gear set. The box was used for around 200km with my whopping 1200cc engine
in my oval but I will cover the cost of Dave to tear it down to check it out despite not expecting any dramas at all.

Gearbox:

Heavy duty side plate
Super diff
Full Albins gear set with ratios selected by Dave and myself to suit the turbo application (taller first) based on a 26in tyre
All the usual attention to detail and upgrades Dave imparts on all his builds
My brief to Marty was to build a reliable engine that would push an all steel beetle easily into the 10's so the above combo was what he came up
with.
It's a lot of coin, but selling for a lot less than I have invested - if you want to get your beetle into the 10's then you have to be prepared to
spend a few bucks Even if you have to buy a cheap beetle (if you don't
have one already), you'll be able to embarrass your mates in their XR6 turbo utes and Skylines for under $30K
Cheers

I think I just died.
Wow. That is amazing.
can i ask who bought it?????
you can ask
A fellow from Sydney...its going into a splitty dual cab
..... that no longer needs front wheels. It'll spend the rest of it's life doing really fast wheel stands!!!!
Gee!! Another splitty with a big engine in it
What will you let the box go for?
Quote: |
doubt it.

Man that sold quick, going in a dual cab!!
Westi?
I know!!! It was the secret squirell!!!
I think Al is trying to throw us off the scent. I heard it was a guy in Brisbane and it was going in a country buggy
Haha, no secret squirrel stuff here We'll do the installation into the
splitty DC some time next year before it heads home to the northern beaches of sydney.
If anyone is interested in the drag spec swing axle box, but with ratios that are still street able, I would take $3.5K firm on the box (with axles
etc). The Albins gear set cost a big whack, so not really willing to budge on price.
Cheers
Al
Al - Call you in the morning on the gearbox
Luke
Sorry luke, just pipped at the post mate.
Engine and gearbox are now sold. Thanks for the interest.
AL
Pity you passed it on Alan.
Note to self. Don't stop light race any split kombis here on the northern beaches. That goes for the oval and the WRX!
