I picked up a Country Buggy "Volkswagen" badge at the swap meet at Dubs on the weekend, and im wondering if the badges were made just for the
Country Buggies, or used from another model. It's much smaller than the Kombi one I already have.
Hi Graham
When I was looking for this part I looked at several, but couldn’t find one that matched the holes in the rear lid. In the end I settled for a nice
one from something else. When I made the new skin for the rear lid I drilled the holes to suite the one I had.
The parts book calls it “12Y 853 019 Emblem – Rear Lid”
The “12Y” is a prefix put on any part that’s “Country Buggy only”, like body parts and weather strips etc. Why they would cast a special
deck lid emblem for this car, when they were ordered by Germany to use as many existing parts as possible, is anybody’s guess? And, if it is an
existing part, why use 12Y in the part number? It struck me as very strange indeed. We’ll probably never know.
So, I think the answer to your question is, yes, strange as that may be.
Cheers
Tony
Thanks for the info Tony.
Here's the original holes on my Country Buggy Engine lid
And the badge
We sure miss Bill he would have known http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/images/smilies/mad.gif
Yeah Bill was the Guru of the Country Buggy and an Awesome guy! Don't know if anyone will ever know as much about the Country Buggy like he did.
He is missed by many.
Have you checked the measurements of the 70 T2 badge, from memory it was a bit smaller than some of the later ones.
Good point Grumble. When they were told to use existing parts, I guess that doesn’t mean just old or current, it could just as easily mean future.
70 was only a couple of years away, perhaps the badge existed already on the prototypes or overseas models etc?
Have you got the actual measurements Graham?
