THat'll look good when finished!!! Now hurry up!

Are you putting in a T4 Stroker with 13plugs??

58camper - November 11th, 2009 at 07:00 PM

Craig,

I have a nice clean bog standard 1300cc that might do the trick and stop you twisting the spring plates when you put your boot into it.

Will follow the resto with interest.

Well done

Craig Torrens - November 11th, 2009 at 08:18 PM

Thanks Bill...........but I reckon Beetlejuice may have the right idea !:D

More photo's this Friday.

ztnoo - November 12th, 2009 at 11:43 PM

Craig,
Looks like an outstanding start to the project!
What a difference this method makes....and it's my understanding this is much less abrasive in term of removing rust and scale and preserving much more of the original metal.
The before and after pics are very impressive.
You are going to have an excellent base to prime and finish.
:tu:

Steve

No...........Rebel Restorations on the Central Coast.

58camper - December 4th, 2009 at 06:18 AM

Craig,
Good stuff, watching the resto with interest.

What was the name of that crowd that did the handbrake cables for you some years ago.?

ztnoo - December 4th, 2009 at 06:39 AM

Craig,
You are off to a fantastic start....and I might add you appear to sparing no expense at getting off on the right foot from the beginning.
I am following this with great interest also.
Can you give us a ball park figure on what all that prep working is costing you? Please understanding I'm not trying to pry or be unduly nosey.....just curious as to what an outstanding start such as this might run.
Looks like all the big stuff is getting done. You plan the same treatment on all the smaller parts as well?

Regards,
Steve

Brian - December 4th, 2009 at 06:49 AM

you need to use early T2 cables shortened , u can swage new threads on the end easily at a Chandlers

Craig Torrens - May 18th, 2010 at 05:48 PM

some progress shots.

New inner panel being fitted (Thanks to CB John for the new panel).

Craig Torrens - May 18th, 2010 at 05:53 PM

All the spot welds are in the exact same position from the orginal panel, this was achieved by using a stencil to copy their location.

Craig Torrens - May 18th, 2010 at 05:56 PM

new petrol tank support...

Craig Torrens - May 18th, 2010 at 05:58 PM

new outer guard was fabricated as the original was........well not good enough!

11CAB - May 18th, 2010 at 05:59 PM

Looking good :)

Craig Torrens - May 18th, 2010 at 06:01 PM

a new 'edge' to provide a nice sharp line as per original as the old one was butchered by a previous owner.

Craig Torrens - May 18th, 2010 at 06:04 PM

looks 100% better with the replacement edge/lip.

Craig Torrens - May 18th, 2010 at 06:10 PM

certainly helps starting with a 99% rust free CB, but the $ still add up for body work. I have told them there is to be NO filler in this car, so all dents/panels etc are being prepared using "old school" panel beating.........and thats what this CB deserves:cool:

Craig,
Remarkable job.
Very very nice.
You are going to have a real jewel of a CB when you are finished.
Steve

Craig Torrens - May 21st, 2010 at 09:51 PM

Cheers Steve......yes I'm hoping for a 'jewel', it will certainly cost the price of one !!

Craig Torrens - June 13th, 2010 at 08:38 PM

58camper - June 14th, 2010 at 07:34 AM

hehe.....yeah i must be getting old !

Craig Torrens - June 21st, 2010 at 08:47 PM

I pulled the old CB motor apart today, and I'm glad I decided to freshen her up ;)

Looks like it has done a LOT of miles, but overall in good condition. The bottom end has never been apart before, but it has recently had a new mahle 1300 P&B kit installed. Heads are not cracked, but will need new guides and valves.

So now its time to make the 1300 like new :tu:

Craig Torrens - July 7th, 2010 at 12:47 PM

I found this photo today............its what under the front guard looked like before the work began!
