CB part wanted and odd question
vwsteve - November 1st, 2010 at 11:36 AM

A mate of mine is looking for the pivot for a passenger wiper which is mounted on the w/s surround on his buggy and also why wont the original hubcaps fit his buggy rims, ie the axle nuts hut the hubcap before the hubcaps actually clip on??
cheers
steve

will a 181 wiper spindle fit? look on e-bay germany for one
has the gearbox (with axles) been changed? how much does the nut need to go on? can it be trimmed?

C Buggys use 40horse hubcaps , they have a larger dome than the 12volt ones

the hubcaps being used are the early ones, not late

That’s a seriously weird problem your mate’s got there Steve. The rear of a CB is just a swing axle type 2. All rims sit on the drum the same way and have the hub cap clips right up against the brake drum. The big old dome hub caps are big enough to clear the axle and the nut no problem. There’s a few ways to make them touch I guess. You could make a bigger nut that extends out further, put a washer or spacer under the nut or put a washer or spacer behind the drum so it spaces it out. These would make the nut stick out past the end of the stub axle and touch. You could put thinner brake shoes on (or none), then machine the inner and outer parts of the drum or shorten something up in the bearing area so the drum goes further on. These would move the drum, wheel & hub cap in so it touched the end of the stub axle. Only reason you’d do that is to get clearance for wider tyres but it’s a bit extreme. Something’s not right that’s for sure. Let us know when you find the answer. I can’t wait.

my mate was thinking the rims may be wrong but they look like the typical cb or splitty kombi rims, i assume there is a spacing problem as well
