A workmate said he went to an auction north of Deniliquin on Saturday in which KO741 was included, it appears to be remarkably complete but in need of some work. I'll try and get him to post some pics.

He said there were quite a few interested parties, and it eventually went for over $4000. Anybody here the lucky bidder??

A guy I know from the Mallee who was at the Auction and who reckoned he would have stopped bidding at $1500 as there was a sh..load of panel work required as well as putting a replacement pan under it. You could not just see the ground through the pan it was a problem to see the pan.
The motor ran but all the brakes were gone.
I think this vehicle was originally used to move planes around over at Horsham Airport many years ago.
Dont think the buyer was a VW enthusiast according to my friend.

I was at the auction it sold for $4100.00 IIRC. a mate and I went to bid but the bidding went crazy for a very rough example. didnt have the oe motor, chassis was in need of more love than just the pans as the tunnel near the front was butcherd and very rusty. in its defence most of the car was complete and that is allways good. I suppose that this price is a good thing as it means the CB is becoming more collectable and those who have one, a better investment!

I had a look at it a couple of days before the auction. Had a long chat with the owner. Left a $2000 max bid with the auctioneer. No wonder I didn't hear back from him!
The owner informed me there were 5-6 country buggies in the area around Deniliquin. Farmers had bought them back in the 60's as cheap alternative to Land Rovers. Unfortunately he wouldn't say who had them or where they were. He also indicated there were 2 UNUSED buggies sitting in a shed up near Griffith. Go get em boys!!

From what I hear $2K was about the right number for that blue CB.
I have heard similar rumours about CBs in a shed out that way. There was a sheep station that did have 6 vehicles over the years but there is only one battered vehicle now there that gets pulled out each Xmas for a run around the paddock.

The slightest concrete clue would have me camped out there for a week looking in every shed.

Yes $2000 would have been a VERY good buy but even $4100 is reasonable. The CB from Byron Bay sold on e-bay a few weeks ago was purchased by the seller for $3000 and he told me he had spent another $5000 on it. $6000 down the gurgler !!
The blue CB body was in pretty good nick though I didn't notice the front tunnel problems MT saw. Must have been too busy talking to owner! It was basically complete and had a detachable hardtop. Motor wasn't OE but was good strong unit. G/B ok. Brakes needed fluid in system.
I am following up on those CB's around Deniliquin.
