Upgrading 1"5/8ths merged system to CSP Python..
snitz - April 29th, 2013 at 10:11 PM

Hey people just after some first hand experiences from anyone that has changed from a Merged header and Phat boy style system to a CSP Python system on a beetle..Im currently running an 1"5/8ths merged scat headers with a phat boy muffler on my 1916cc with 40mm carbs and full flow oil system but the muffler is starting to "blow out" and is getting louder. Im looking at fitting a 1"5/8ths CSP Python exhaust.Has anyone achieved a power increase?.Has anyone run into fitment issues with the CSP Python running a full flow oil system?.regards Jason

G'day
Have a look at my Members Ride thread under Marty

I went from one of those VW OEM headers to a CSP style sidewinder.
Mine is 1 1/2" to 1 3/8"
I reckon 1 5/8" is to big for a mild 1916

Dyno output went from 66 to 70 RWHP

Cheers..will have a read..1"5/8ths was recommended by engine builder..motor runs C35 scat cam, cnc'd heads from Penrose and decent compression..running PULP fuel.I guess the cone inserts help tune the exhaust too?..

I run 1 & 5/8 on my 1776

.... Snitz, could you not just chop out the muffler from the phat boy pipes and weld a magnaflow or borla etc one back in it's place. That's what I did after my empis short life.

Yes. get the 2 smaller ones. Very easy to swap out for comparisons.

Was thinking of chopping out and replacing muffler..Being ceramic coated and with a mate with an exhaust shop it might be easier to replicate the phat boy part all again in stainless than cut up the ceramic coated system, replacing the box and getting it recoated.
