hey,
currently in the process of reassembling my 63 project and was wondering what exhaust systems people are running. Currently have euro exhaust on
sounds a little loud for street use. Anyway cheers for any advice and comments.

Got a Empi extractor Phatboy setup at the mo, noticeable increase in power and sounds great when you get up it but I havent even lowered the arse yet and backing out
of driveways is a muffler scraping affair
so, bit the bullet and bought a
vintage speed system which a few people on here are running. cant wait to see how it sounds and goes
Im running a Scat ceramic coated merged headers with a phat boy muffler..Flows well but motors with decent compression will probably blow out the packing in the muffler..lol. Plus their only really suitable if your beetle has the nose down and bum up stance as the over-hang is quite far back from the wheels so its prone to scraping.CSP or Vintagespeed would outlast my system..but its 4 times the price..
Running a vintage speed on the beetle really starting to carbon up and sounding good. Tucks up nice and two pipes out the back look sweet. Got a empi quiet pak on the split, but will change this down the track don't like the sound of it. Have had them before and better to buy a better muffler than the quiet pak one
I run two of these exhaust, one on the beetle and the other on the early ghia, sound good and are made of 304 stainless , i got these from George.
Vintage Speed is my preference, many different versions and performance levels. Good long life due to Og style design and probably the best for
ground clearance. I do like the sidewinder as Shayne has posted, but some of the cheaper brands fit like crap and they need the muffler removed for
tappet adjustments.
I have very similar to Shayne
Are you running heater boxes??
If yes - whatever you run get flanges put on
If running a sidwinder, the in-out mufflers are the way to go.
So much easier to get the muffler flat and high enough clearance for doing tappets.
If you use the straight through it is a pain trying to get to the front end
If i was doing another one I would look at a Vintage Speed
I can do the tappets on the beetle without removing the Muffler but on the ghia i have to remove it, could be the body work difference.

Vintage speed sits in the stock place and it don't rattle or come loose
currently have not got heater channels on her as the originals are in really bad shape as is the stock exhaust possibly repairing the rust holes.
