whats the circle plate on the front for?

I feel stupid, what is the circle shaped plate for? steering box? mechanical access? I am not sure but it should be obvious haha

Plus a third then on the front of the tunnel, but it's not round... it's rectangular with rounded ends.
Bet not too many will know why that one isn't round like the others !!!
