Yes, its an oil bath air filter
common on air cooled VWs up until about 1974-75
the air rushes in/sucked in and goes down and hits the oil in the bottom// any dust sticks to the oil...
VW manuals on ebay all the time.. Aussie one isn;t bad and is cheap... You cannot have enough of them as they are all written by different people so
are different..
a good one for You would be the Dummies Guide for the compleat idiot... by the late John Muir, who wasn't a mechanic , He just wrote books.. lol
No offence meant... many people on here have one under their front seat.. lol
it does show with drawings just about everything You need to know.. about Your beetle...
it pops up on ebay also..
Rob and Daves shadetree manual is also very good with questions and answers and a LOT of info..
Rob is a member of AVD and lives in South Australia..
