Looking for a wiring diagram for '66 Beetle
andmac - July 10th, 2013 at 09:38 AM

I'm looking for a wiring diagram for my '66 Beetle 1300 6v. The diagram for a '66 on http://www.vintagebus.com/wiring/index.html
appears to be for a US vehicle. Or at least it seems to differ with the electrical layout on my beetle.

Also, did the '66 come with a hazard light switch?

No hazard lights in a 66,these didn't come until the 12volt models.

look at the 62-65 diagram that should be closer as in US models changed before ours

Thanks. The 62-65 diagram does look more similar to the electrical setup in my car.

NOT in Australia..

the 66 & 67 beetles in Australia were virtually the same as the 62-64 beetles..
Look for an Australian Beetle electrical diagram..

I thought there was one on vintage bus website..

If You can't find it I'll post it on here for you..

LEE

PS: VW in Germany started changing beetles in 66 & 67 models and resulted in the late model 68 beetle.. USA Beetles always had their own wiring diagram... !! Lee

here is an early australian wiring diagram
it should be nearly identical to yours??
closest I could find on the net..
I have them in Australian manuals..
I'll check to see if they are the same..

Thanks Lee. This looks a little different to mine although the wiring colour code is handy. The 62-65 US diagram looks most similar to my '66 beetle.

Yes, I looked at the 62-67 [I think] -Australian wiring diagram but it isn't the same as Australian cars as We did NOT have hazard lights on those cars...

check out the blinker unit on the wiring diagram You are looking at.. is it round or rectangular??
I believe Australian beetles had the round blinker unit..
even My 68 German beetle had a round blinker unit..

I know on later beetles the US wiring shows the hazard light switch with 2 terminals but all the ones I've seen in Australia have 6 terminals [plusearth terminal] reason I know that, is that I have 3 sitting in front of Me lol
I will keep looking for an Aust one for after 1961

Hi Lee

Sorry for the slow reply. The blinkers in the post '61 diagram I have are round. This diagram looks to be spot on for my '66 Australian beetle. It was the emergency flasher relay in the diagram from Vintage Bus that had me confused. I assume it only applies to a US '66 beetle.
