1968 Beetle Wiring Connectors

So I have been slowly (very slowly) wiring my 1968 project. I fitted a new wiring loom from machine7, which works quite well, only a few little issues.

My question at the moment is about the "connectors". Im using the wiring diagram on thesamba (in conjunction with a pretty rough australian beetle one), and all the connectors marked as T/ T1/ T2 are confusing the hell out of me as to where I can find them. They seem to be located just before the engine area, before the tail lights.

Im a total novice to wiring, so im hoping my silly question has a simple answer so I can get on with it.

They are just connecting links, to allow two normal push-on ended wires to join together. They are semi-clear plastic, about 5cm long and 1 cm wide (each wire connector) but can be stacked side to side or even arranged into a 'T' shap . Each one has a tongue inside to push the wire onto.

VW usually placed them in the engine bay, along the side walls along the 'skirting board' behind the side insulation where they were out of the way (usually just in front of the drain tubes). They will be arranged as you see in the diagram, T4 on the left and T/T3 on the right of the engine. They're safely tucked inside out of the weather, NOT hanging under the mudguards.

Thanks for the info Phil. What about where two wires connect to one wire? And where can I purchase these from?

I don't think they are available now...
even the single ones are hard to find...

I would like some of the two into one connectors but the old ones are now too contaminated [dirty] to use..

I used connectors with screws in them to connect the tail lamps etc... so, 3 wires could be connected easily..

USA [north america] wiring diagrams are different to Aussie ones... Ours were the same as Europe... UK etc..

In the old days you used to go down to the local VW wreckers and grab a handful. My local VW shop used to have rows of wrecked VWs you could wander past and pull off what you wanted. They were fantastic components to keep in your spare parts boxes.

Nowadays most of the old VW wreckers are gone and those parts are a bit harder to find; they do turn up at VW swapmeets etc, and some of the long-time VW shops may still have some. Try ringing Boris at VVDS (02) 97891777.

The 'two-into-one' looks exactly as it does in the diagram, with two plastic-sheathed push-on tongues at one end, and one at the other.
