Rear shock absorber recommendations for 68 IRS Beetle
pfillery - August 29th, 2013 at 01:11 PM

Any ideas. Whats the best stock (or close to it) shockie for a 68? Its an IRS rear so something compatible with that. I currently have these silly looking coilovers which I want to get rid of - don't really have a need for coilovers on a stock Beetle.

Any to go for (or any that should be avoided?)

Any problems posting gas shocks? Can post normal ones but any compressed gas can't be posted which ups the cost to buy them.

Monroe GT Gas, they're Australian made and they're cheap! I've never had an issue with mine.

Boge or Bugpack for oil only and then KYB, Monroe, Bilstein, Spax, Koni and so on for gas/oil shox.

Be warned that the gas shock can give a firmer ride than an oil shock just from the nature of it's design so something to bear in mind.

all because of the increased damping which is required when you modify your suspension.
