Barry, that is pretty much the same collection that I use, although I still have the VW handbook that came with the car , and I find it useful at times.

Hi
You shouldn't stop with just one manual, as - most don't really show every thing, as body bits etc.
The Bentley manual was the authorised by VW USA manual and is very good.
try to find on ebay plus the other many VW workshop owners manuals about on there.
Many of the workshop owners manuals are for 1200-1300-1500 and 1600 beetles.. but You won't find much for the 1303 super.. The Bentley manual for the 1303 would be the best to have plus any Haynes manual for the 1303 super.

also check out the website Rob & daves aircooled - it has some very good info there. ; http://www.vw-resource.com/

cheers

John Muirs complete idiot book is ok if you literally know nothing to start with about cars.

But once someone knows that the round thing in the driveway is a VW and you go to the back to find the engine throw the Muir manual in the bin and get a proper workshop manual.

I've got Haynes, Scientific publications and Bentley manuals and they are all good.

The Gregory's Manual (Scientific Publications) was produced in Australia, so it has the correct info for Australian-spec VWs such as RHD wiring diagrams and so on. It is written in a very technical but practical style. There are no distractions from Euro/German specs that were not sold in Australia.

You can find older copies on Ebay, or you can get a brand new copy from Haynes Australia at Padstow:

I haven't seen this one before, it does sound good.. I'd grab it..
as You cannot have enough manuals
=owners manuals- operator manuals- service manuals- restoration manuals =CHILTONS- HAYNES- BENTLEY - AUST AND UK MANUALS
I have 10 or more different manuals and they usually all have something that isn't in the other books.

I read Mine all the time...
CHECK OUT AMAZON.COM in the USA..
You can buy used books from other people thru their website very cheaply.. postage is the expensive part..
If You can find a relative who is over there and coming back, they can bring the books back..

I use the Gregory's mainly.

Cheers,
Brett.

Gregory's is waste of time and not correct for any country.

Bentley will cover 99%.

Bizarre - October 10th, 2013 at 06:42 PM

Gregory's #45 works for me.

Not my bible but supplies some good info
