Child seat anchor points
Marco_VESS - September 23rd, 2013 at 11:41 AM
Has anyone had child seat anchor points installed in a bug? If so, what's involved and roughly what did it cost? ('71 Super in case it makes a
difference...)
Thanks
Marco

To directly answer your question, I've seen them fitted in a couple of places, either just under the rear window, bolted through underneath the
grilles (technically a lot more involved to do) or in the bottom of the luggage area behind the rear seat (easier). Really depends on your local laws.
In Qld you can fit them yourself as long as you do it according to regs and get it inspected and plated. IE you don't need to "have it fitted by a
qualified person". You need to use a certain size bolt and a plate with welded nut, riveted to the body etc.
My ones I had done in the kombi cost $110 for a mobile certifier to come out and inspect and pass them and a back seat install as well. That was
cheaper than taking it somewhere because a lot of them count anchor points and seats as 2 seperate mods and want $180 for the plate.
Like I said, may be different in other states.
Cost wise for mine it took half an hour for me to fit 3 of them, the captive nut mounting plates were free (went to a mod place and they just gave
them to me), high tensile bolts were $3.50 the pack at Bunnings, the child anchor attachment was $9 at the local K-mart and a couple of rivets,
washers etc I already had. Easy to do, if you can drill a hole you can fit one.

I put mine through the firewall below the grille and above the fan shroud. Not difficult to do and they still clear the 6x9 speaker boxes I have in
the rear luggage area when in use.
Cheers,
