'76 Beetle parts information
Lateral - November 19th, 2013 at 05:56 AM

Hi guys

I just got myself a 1976 Beetle and am wondering about the following as I know that the 76 was a conglomeration of parts from different models.

1. What model was the front brakes from?
2. The thermostatically controlled vent in the engine lid I believe was only on the 76...if so, where did this part originally come from?
3. What model/type are the rear drums?
4. What model/type is the IRS gearbox?
5. What model/type is the Fresh Air Box and fan?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Regards
Greg

From the doors back they are just a 75 Lbug.

The running gear was just what they were running in the last Lbugs, same with the thermo vent decklid and charcoal canister.
The gearbox is just that Z pattern top one that 75Lbugs had.

front brakes are same as Supers but the beam just has disc brake spindles so essentially the same as what a 1500 had.

The fresh air fan was only found in 76 bugs in aus but overseas they were stock in flat screen supers, and some standards.

Thanks mate.

So, was the Thermo vent actually installed in any Super bugs?

Yep 75 models had them.

72-74 Beetles and Superbugs have the pressing for them but not cut out.
