What year is my beetle?

I've just bought a beetle which the owner said is a 1959' and I'd like to confirm it.

The chassis no is 2658414.

Could anyone give me some direction on this?

early 1960.

Is it a semaphore car?

Yes Joel, it's has semaphores. Summer blue in colour.

How do I tell which engine is in it? It's a single port, apparently the original engine.

It should be a 36hp if its the original engine, was the last year of them.

The generator stand is part of the case, the later ones are a seperate bolt on item.

The engine number is stamped on the generator stand just below the gen.

My Dad had a 59 Summer Blue back in the day... seeing something similar could bring back some good memories for him I'd think.
