I've got a 72 super with no engine, and I've just pulled to bits an industrial 1600 single port engine which has a dual relief case, and I'm looking for some advice with what to do with it.
I live between Cowra and Orange nsw, and wonder if there are any known vw guru's near me?
I've never built an engine before, vw or otherwise, but I've pulled some to bits and got various things going growing up (I'm only 20) so I'm relatively mechanically minded.
I need to decide how good my case is, which from reading and inspection it seems ok, and if I do use it, what to build. I don't have much money available atm, but the idea of better performance is tempting... On the other hand, I've never driven an ordinary beetle on the road.
So, any thoughts?
Cheers

Buy one of these........
http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.T...
......then consider your options.

If the roads around there are still as complete crap as they were 20 years ago, then you'll enjoy the Super ride quality!

Have fun mate.

Cheers mate, I've heard of that book before, I should probably grab a copy.
And yeah some of the roads are a little bit less than premium... ;)

If you are only relatively new to VW engines and on a budget start out stock first, plenty of time down the track to start modifying.
