Handbrake cable size
Josephshelley1vw - November 23rd, 2014 at 09:19 AM

Hi all.
Just having some trouble finding the right size handbrake cable for my 67 beetle. Vollks are offering a 68 and 72 inch but apparently there are allot mor than just two sizes. Also have heard that the longer (72") ones are for IRS and shorter (68") ones for swing arm setups.
Just wanted to be sure before I order a new one.
If all else fails I might just pull the other one off and measure that, which seems like I'll have to do that anyway as I've also been told that it is advisable to replace both at the same time to avoid weakness.

If anyone could provide some clarity that would be great

Cheers
Joe

Give Tooley Imports in Hornsby or Micks Motors a call, they are both great to deal with and their knowledge is great. They will be able to sell you the right part.

I think you will find an Aussie '67 is the same as a Euro/German '64 and earlier. The Euro models changed the tunnel in '65 and went to the lever heaters on the handbrake; Aussie VWs did not.

Get the one for '58 to '64.
