I have a November 1953 built Oval that came over to Oz as a CKD to be assembled by Martin & King, can anyone date the assembly number
MKA 7118
The reason I ask is the long chassis plate in the spare wheel well is missing and I want to make sure the body and chassis are original to each
other.
This is the 3rd Beetle I have bought that has had the long screw on chassis plate missing ! I expect someone has a fine collection of them hanging on
their wall !
Any info on Ovals welcome, thanks.
Unfortunately the MKA numbers is useless
Is there a chassis number on the tunnel ??
Hi, The Chassis number on the tunnel is 1560101, which dates it as Nov 53. As Aussie Ovals didn't start assembly until 1954 I am just trying to see
how early The body is to make sure it is the original body to the 53 chassis. All I have to go on is the MKA number and the fact that it has the
starter button hole on the dash near the Speedo.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks, Mark.
1560101 = June 1957
yes AS PER ABOVE
Its NOT a 53 that's for sure well the chassis is with that number
post some pics of the doors and dash
So thanks to you guys and John ( in2vws ) it appears I have a 1955 Body (going on the MKA Number) and a 1957 Chassis.
This is perfectly feasible as the body was not properly attached to the pan when I bought it and it is missing heaps of correct parts.
I got the Nov 53 date from misreading the chassis number chart ....
1953 1-428 157 to 1-575 415 .... well my 1560101 falls into that - I didn't realise the hyphon should be present.
As for the body, all I had to go on was the MKA number, The fact that it has the starter button hole next to the Speedo on the dash and ribbed doors -
all pointing to an early body.
The downside is i don't have an early Oval ..... the upside is i will save myself heaps of money by putting the Oval body onto my running 58 and
making a bitsa with all incorrect parts.
Thanks to everyone for all your help !
