Morning Lads,
I have decided i want to put together a build thread of how my project Baja is going along at this point.
So it all started with a Ragtop bug, a 65 that has had about twenty different owners over the last twenty years. It has been sitting in a shed down
the east coast of Tasmania stripped for a long time. I just happened to drop in, throw a wad of cash around and got it towed home.
It had a pretty nasty hit up front, and has had the rear apron removed. Someone in the past has welded in new heater channels and pillars, but that
must have been a long time ago.
Fast forward another month or so after bringing it home, and after a few beers with a few mates, the plan was made to backdate her to an oval. And not
just the shitty back window conversion, the semaphore pillars and the front windscreen/dash.
And what a major job it's been so far! But the plan has and always will be a late 60's early 70's style oval ragtop baja bug... Just to piss the
purists off....
The remainders of an oval i found on gumtree...> Someone else's hack job not mine!

Now it takes a brave man to lay that sort of cut... So we strengthened the whole front and roof before we made the cut!
Semaphore pillars are in.
Could be time for an update!
Still undecided on the colour... Hoping to go for a vintage hue maybe? I've got a flash kit to put on.... That way i could always say "oh yeah... a
little old lady owned this before me. Used to only drive it to the shops, all original but i decided it would make a great baja!"
awesome! great work
WAY TOOO MUCH time on your hands there
That said - GREAT work there

Will , to be real cool you need to ditch the fibreglass bits and go full old school , all steel baja , ie cutting up original guards , cut off
original hood with sheetmetal nose .
When done right they are super cool
And some ice pick door handle door are also required , lol
Anymore updates on this project... Keen to see it finished!
yeah what he said
Okay guys! Get ready for the updates!
yes please
ready!!!
Top job-love it.
I can't believe its been over two years since i started this project! The list of parts to buy just keep going and going...
So an update... A long over due update!
Painted in the 50's Dove Blue. At this point i still need the following:
- 4x Shocks
- Interior Fitted
- All Wiring to be done
- Brakes Bled
- Front/Rear barwork Fitted/Built
- Lighting front/rear
- Headlight Buckets
- Ragtop Installed
- most of the dash installed
- Bonnet Straps
- Bonnet Rubber
- etc etc etc etc
At this point does anyone feel as though the buying/fitting/fixing will never end? I'm really overwhelmed by the stuff that needs to be completed!
Looks really good though
Wow! What a huge amount of work.
It is so different to what anyone else is doing. The style is totally different to what I would do, but I have to admit it looks awesome! You're
going to have some fun in that car when it's done.
Can't wait to see more pics as it comes together more.
Looking good!
Looks GREAT with paint on it!
