Engine and Chassis Identification

Hi all, new to the air-cooled scene.
Recently got a bug with chassis 1189XXXX
Engine number was WXXXXXXP
I cannot find any info of that engine code. Hoping people here can shed some light

Engine number is a police issued number from WA.

If I am correct 118****** through to 148****** is 1968 but I can't guarantee it.

This is the number engraved on my engine crankcase though, not sure how is it a police issued number.

Your engine has been replaced at some time with a new one. These new crankcases have no number on them so you go to the Police and they issue a new
number that gets stamped in to the crankcase.

Wow I did not know this was possible.. Is it because of the prefix "W" that's why it's WA?

Correct. The "P" at the end stands for Police as well.

It's 'cause "W" is the first letter of Western Australia.
"N" for NSW. "V" for Victoria etc.and the "P" is for Police issued number.
The original number may have been machined off or a new case with no number. The owner would have a new number issued by the Police and then would
have had it stamped by someone authorized and then checked by an inspection station.
