Purchased this car in pretty good condition around 6 months ago (some of you may recognise it from the “buying, selling & swapping cars” section of this site). I’ll try to add some progress photos as I go.
Feel free to post your ideas and suggestions as I go . . . . . :dork:

Dude. I am doing a resto as well and it is amazing what you find once you start stripping back. Mine wasn't to bad, but it still had a couple of patches. Good luck with it

Cheers

Adam

A parcel arrived yesterday from Classic VW
- Window, door and bonnet seals, new vent windows and some axel boots.
Still waiting on a few other goodies including 12V semaphores :-)

stubug - May 23rd, 2008 at 12:34 PM

Cheers Adam,
Haven't found anything to scary so far (touch wood)

stubug - June 6th, 2008 at 09:34 AM

Plates finally arrived!

stubug - June 9th, 2008 at 09:37 AM

Buying a shed at the moment (with a house attached to it) so work on the beetle has been hampered.

stubug - June 10th, 2008 at 10:10 AM

12V semaphores arrived yesterday (I love these things). The plan is to get them flashing with the blinkers which will be mounted to the bumper. Does anyone know where I can get some quality indicators that aren't $350!

squizy - June 10th, 2008 at 10:37 AM

Check out the Harley blinkers that you can get.

volumex - June 10th, 2008 at 10:29 PM

What is that rectangular hole, just up from the fuel tank hole for??

stubug - June 11th, 2008 at 10:05 AM

A CD player was mounted there so I’m guessing it was cut out to feed the wires through. When it was painted last someone “patched” the hole with fabric and painted over the top.
I haven’t decided how I am going to fix it yet.

stubug - June 16th, 2008 at 10:09 AM

Slow progress is still progress.

If my neighbours happen to be on this forum I am sorry for the racket!

The Stump - June 24th, 2008 at 02:06 PM

Dude!
Cool thread - keep the updates and pictures coming!

eraser - July 19th, 2008 at 09:41 PM

what did you use to remove the paint in the end?

stubug - July 22nd, 2008 at 04:26 PM

Combination of orbital sander and sanding block.

After LOTS of practice on sheet metal I have repaired 4 of the 5 rust spots. Not sure how to repair the split in the metal under the driver’s window.

All the red 2pac paint is off (some area to bare metal some just back to the original paint). All areas have been treated and I hope to lay the first coat of primer in a couple of weeks.

I will have to remember to bring the camera home from work so I can take some photos.

vw54 - July 22nd, 2008 at 06:48 PM

Take Off the ALL the olf paint if your going to apply 2 pak agian
other wise it will bleed through and you will have wasted lots of funds

stubug - July 23rd, 2008 at 11:25 AM

It’s a daily driver (and mainly on country roads) so the plan was to go with an acrylic paint.

stubug - September 16th, 2008 at 01:13 PM

progress has been slow but i can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel

stubug - November 12th, 2008 at 08:07 AM

reub - November 12th, 2008 at 02:02 PM

stubug - November 13th, 2008 at 10:04 AM

After talking it up that it would "start first go" after sitting for 7 months I am please to say (to the horror of my mates) that after kicking over for a while it fired up and sounds Great!

looking forward to stretching her legs on the 2.5 hour drive down south.
