Hi all from the other side of the ditch.....
My parents have just purchased a VW Poraga that apparently was originally a 1967.
Now the problems start..
What i am wanting to know is wether the 1967 came out as a total convertible or has it had a roof chop?
This car was imported built up into NZ from Aus in 1989. and somehow the import/certification papers have dissolved...
It is making it slightly difficult to get a warrant of fitness for it.
Any information i can get on this car would be of great help.
Thanks guys and gals..
Mike.
Hi, you should probably post some pics as well.
I would say that it would probably be a chopped roof done at the same time as the conversion.
Noddy,
hard top
factory cabrios were never sold in australia the only ones around are private imports
plus the design of the poraga top and rollbar cant be used on cab anyway thankfully
i think any person that turned a cab into a poraga would have faced ther firing squad long ago
altho ive seen the yanks turn cabs into some pretty tragic abortions
main thing to check with poragas is the original beetle shell rusts under the fibreglass and u cant really tell till its pretty terminal
it is basically identical to this one.
even the rag top and windscreen profile looks the same as this.

Chassis number 5185726
Engine number f1168113

Transport department seems to think that it never came out with a 1700cc and that it must be 1300cc but i have no idea where to find out what's what.
This link might help you with the chassis number.
