Wiring Questions
mrboombastic - April 13th, 2009 at 07:12 PM

Just picked up my new bug. Drives beautifully. However found a few errant wires which I would like cleaned up. Any thoughts as to what they could be.

First off there is a wire coming from the rear of the Driver side headlight wiring and running out through the bumper mount hole in guard and then just hanging. Is this for some sort of driving light maybe?

And secondly there are two wires in the engine bay on the drivers side of engine both with female crimp terminals on but no apparent connections for them to be on. Pic attached.

Reckon they might be for reverse light

Does your reverse light work??
Usually comes back from the switch on the nose cone into a "double male" connector thing
One wire goes to each of the reverse light

Also check the rear bonnet light to see if that comes on when the lights are on.

The front wire may be for a blinker in a euro front bumper that could have been there at some stage. Test it and see if it comes on with the blinkers, or the headlights if it was for a driving light.

I have a similar situation and my number plate light isnt hooked up so im guessing thats my problem, might be the same for you

looks like the earth wire for the numberplate light/right side tail lights

it may have had a trailer connection fitted at some time in its life
thats usually when the wiring gets messed up

I dont think its the numberplate light...that seems to be hooked up properly. Reverse light is a possibility...will take to it with multimeter on weekend and see. Was reading chapter on wiring in John Muirs book last night about testing for shorts. Will go over with fine tooth comb on weekend and see what I come up with.

Cheers for help all.
