I have had this bug for about 9 yrs sitting in my folks shed collecting dust... I have been planning on getting the project up and running as soon as
other life/home renovation issues are dealt with. Just wondering what I should do with it though... I want to maintain standard mechanicals but,
should I preserve it's exterior looks and a re-trim or spend the extra $$$ for a full respray as well?
Cheers
Greg
looks pretty good for a start
I reckon leave it how it is, there is something really cool about driving around in an old bug thats not perfect, it's like you've just rescued it, plus you don't worry about those stone chips so often! and to be honest a bit of polish would make most of that paint look pretty good...
It does'nt look too bad after a wash, but it requires the 'a' posts bottom sections replaced and a little rust work to the front and rear aprons and by memory a rear quater panel has a little rust as well, but it's straight and original. I could easily just fade the paintwork into the original with these repairs.
The paint doesn't look to bad. Mine needs a paint job but I have been driving it around for the past six years.
bumpers, rust repairs and go for it.
if you have the money then do a full resto
Keep the og paint if possible
remove the rust ASAP! the rust spreads so quick in old VW's its not funny especially up here in cairns! My car is in at the panel beaters at the moment and im lucky there aint to much rust about although i have had to buy some new parts for the car because its just a cheaper option than removing and fixing the rust thats there already!
