Now please don't laugh - this may seem like a really dopey question, but when you use these stand off thingo's do you retain the spring on the
engine lid?
Also do you need to modify the latch / catch on the valance?
Just thought I would ask this question before pulling off my perfectly painted and aligned engine lid.
Terry
No, You cannot use the spring as far as i know...
I can't even fit the spring with the standoffs taken off.. lol
There is a lot of adjustment you can make so the lock will still work...
I just changed from stand offs, the alloy ones... as It took ages to get the lid back on straight..... and I mean ages....
so, I have used the quick removeable stand offs HOOD JACKS which leaves the hinges in the correct spot... and the stand off is
held on with pins, or dipsticks... or bolts...
and takes 2 minutes to take off...
there is probably a way to hook up the spring as nothing is impossible... just a lot harder...
You can use screwdrivers to hold the lid up...
cheers
LEE
see the screwdrivers being used.....
another thing screwdrivers are good for....
Ah ha - just as I suspected. (to quote Maxwell Smart) I thought alignment would be an issue.
My engine lid doesn't have any vents - so thought about this.
I have the alloy standoffs' - they came with the car - however if there is a simpler design I am all ears.
Cheers Terry

IIRC you still cant use the spring with the hoodjax
you may find youll have to bend the catch tab on the valance abit for it to lock down
re the spring, the only way to keep the spring with stand offs is to use one of those extenders that CIP sell

Hi Terry,
what year model is your car ?
Mine is a 1302 Mexican body.
Cheers, Terry
Pitcha.
Thanks all for those posts.
If I go to the trouble of aligning the stand off hinges I might as well do the spring extension as well.
Should look very neat.
Terry
Joel thats gold been looking for that exact thing for ages..
so does it have the early or late style of engine lid ?
If it has the early style lid then i can show you on Monday how the ragtop is done
I will try to bring it - I guess that's the best way to know furshur. Cheers Terry

Hi Lee. I guess I just took the word of the guy that I bought it from. He built the car from stratch with a brand new shell.
I know the shell is new and I think perhaps some misinformation on my part that this was a 1302.
I believe this was from Mexico and to my limited knowledge beam axle, flat screen and vents behind the side glass meant 1302.
I would love to know officially what it is.
So is this a normal 1500? mexican beetle then? Or Brazil? I think they were both made there. Terry
id say its more brazillian fusca spec
brazil kept the old small 6 volt window bodies with the out of place crescent vents like yours
the mexican bugs went big window at some point early in the piece
its definatly not 1302 though, thats strut front end with the big wide hood
