My Dads Original 1973 Superbug
LukeV85 - September 17th, 2009 at 11:38 PM

Hey guys,

My dad has been hounding me for ages to puts these up so this is it.

My fathers baby, 1973 Superbug. He has owned this for 2 years now, we found it as we happened to be driving past a dealership in Liverpool.

Turns out that this car had been owned previously by a car dealer for more then 20 years after seeing it in his yard. It was stored away for this time until it just ended up in this Liverpool caryard where we spotted it.

On inspection it had only done just over 80,000 orginal kms with log books to prove this, was completely rust free and original, practically show room condition.

Id never driven a Superbug before, i am very impressed with it, its goes very well and has no dramas keeping up with modern traffic conditions

Very nice!! I love the super bugs!
Don't forget the L bug will rust out the rear pillars from the inside, and moisture under the mats will distroy the floor pan. All unnoticed until you have a hole!
There are a few other hidden spots that will rust away in a "rust free car" bug. Just things to be aware of!

So are they kombi mirrors on it? And looks like the windscreen rubber has been replaced at some stage.

Hi Steve,

You are absolutly correct, it has the Dulux sticker under the hood at the front of the car

Ah, your making me jealous. My '73 needs some TLC to be looking as good as that. That dash is stunning, make sure you get a cover for it!!
Don't forget to look inside the fresh air box (a removable plate in boot)

Those rear bubmer over riders look a little different to ones I have. They are slimer and taller. Did they come with the car?

haha yeh the air box under the hood was one of the first places i checked for rust when we got it, thankfully it is clean as a wistle, i would stay the car has been well looked after for all these years kept garaged.

Ill eventually get my dad a dash cover, but not urgent as this car very rarely leaves the garage, my dad would much rather polish it all day long lol

The overriders did not come with the car. I purchased them of ebay as a gift for the old man

nice and tidy bug there. especially for a super, a lot seem to get neglected.

Congratulations! This bug is beautiful and appears in amazing condition. What a find!

Do yourself a favour, get a coathanger and reach up into the c pillars with it and dig out as much of the expanding foam that is in there on both sides. It was put in there at the factory as a really "smart" way to reduce the noise coming into the cabin. The problem is that it holds moisture against the metal and this is why all supers rust out behind the back side windows.

Cheers

The above is excellent information

Is that an 8 track under the dash??

Nice find:tu:
