Type 1 engine operating temperature
Euro_67 - January 25th, 2010 at 07:06 PM

Does any one know the Standard operating oil temp of a 1600 TP ?

What is considered a safe maximum operating oil temp ?

Where is your temp sender for measuring oil temp ?

I rarely use my '67 at highway speeds due to where I live, but on the odd occasion I do sustain highway speeds, the indicated oil temp is around 80 to 100 deg. C.
My sender is mounted in one of the oil pressure relief valve retaining caps (supplied by VVDS years ago). My case is full flow with external filter and front mount oil cooler.

Thanks.

my mechanic said "120 on a hot day around the city
it just runs a bit hotter than water cooled"

mine stays around 100 in the streets and 110-120 in the hills
my oil temp gauge only go up to 120 (coz it's a water temp gauge lol)

Ive got my temp gauge mounted hard up on my header about two inches from the port and it sits anout 80 on a normal daay not going to hard but then on hotter days and up mountains it maxxed at 120 but once i was on the flat again it dropped to about 100.

in the middle of summer my 1776 with the sender in the type3 block off used to max at 95 if flogging down the motorway or up a decent hill

i could drop that back to 85 though just by putting the stand offs on, and thats with a late model 4 vent decklid..... oh and stock oil cooler, 5/30w pennzoil
