Hey everyone!
Can anyone tell me what year belts became standard fitment in beetles in Aust????
Cheers
Todd
Halfway through 1962 the Clayton VW factory began to advertise a new series of VW 1200s as '1962½' models. These were basically the same as the
Australian 1961-62 cars but safety belt anchorage points were included in the B-pillars and rear frame tunnel.
Other improvements the Aussie '62½' got were spring-loaded front bonnet, new rear heater outlets, door check rods and sealed tie-rod ends (with no
grease nipples).
Do you know what the Road Worthy Requirements for VIC are in relation to the seatbelts?
Not to throw anyone out a bit, but myne are the non retractable type, so sort of set and leave.
Do they have to be retractable?
I assume you mean in the 65 beetle Stute ???? I think they came standard with non retract belts .... surely that means it shoudl pass roadwrthy ...
Yeah i meant that one.
Ill see how I go, Seatbelts are pretty cheap and It could prob do with a new set anyway.
Just add it to the list of things to buy I supose.
if you want to buy belts direct from the manufacturer try here

As long as your seat belts aren't freyed or the colour has been bleached out of them they should be fine and don't need to be retractable types. Seatbelts became mandatory in the early 70's, if you have a vehicle that has never had them fitted then you don't need to have them in your vehicle but if they have been fitted, even after market then you need to wear them and they need to comply with the standards.
Love the pictures from the brochure!
The anchor point in the B-pillar looks substancial.
I am going to use the B-pillar picture as a guide, when I install a new set of belts & headliner.
