How do I lower it.

Also, what type of suspention do I have?

It has no springs (coils springs), oh and its a 65 Beetle.

being a convertable it should have strengthening braces underneath

if u lower it real much you gonna get stuck on alot of speed bumps

it will have a link pin front end and swing axle rear

rear is easy to drop, just reset the splines but front needs adjuster welded in and/or dropped spindles

Just in the process of doing my bug the same year as yours.

Rear is easy...front a little more difficult but not bad.

Ok, cool, so it wont be too hard in the rear.

There isnt too much under the floor really, just 2 plates that extend off the bottom of the "roll bar".

My other cars have been much lower than im going to take this thing, im pro at driving over speed bumps sideways, being that douche bag that holds up the traffic because his fully unreal 'Commondore' is riding on the bumpstops..

ive got a convert aswell and piggy is lowered... the pics dont really show how low it is but ive never had problems with the extra reinforcing bars under the car scraping.. i get exhaust scrapeage but thats because i have a crappy muffler on it..

My HZ ute was my first car and I couldnt drive it anywhere, i had 3" lowering blocks in the back and CIG custom lowered springs.
Man I miss that car.....

Mine was a bit easier i guess cos its a 74'L so i have coil springs

I will do some more pics when its back on the road but it sits at a good height, my laser is on superlows and yeah for day to day its far too low.. this however is fine, never had problems with speedbumps have slight egress issues on steep driveways but thats not the suspensions fault.

just be aware the bugs will chew their bushings out faster once lowered... i know .. found out the hard way!

I highly suggest using air suspension for your vw if you wish to lay it really low, and still have the car usable. It will give you the capability to raise and lower your car at will, you won't sacrifice ride quality and suspension performance, and you will get the look that you want. Check out airkewld website for kits, or from other suppliers.

the only problem with air suspension is that it requires a fairly reasonable engineer to sign off on it which can be a problem to find in some places.

Hmmm...i didn't take into consideration nor was i aware of how it's implemented per country, though i would digress that air suspension had been used (or a variation thereof) on numerous factory, off road and luxury vehicles, as well as custom applications here in the US reliably for years. Kits are available now where it's a direct bolt on replacement for the vw shocks, without needing major surgery on the vw to make it work.

But i guess different rules apply to different places. I sure learn something new everyday.
