A cross between a baja and a super maybe?
Or is it just my imagination seeing a higher than usual stance:lol:

Certainly an odd one thats for sure. Im still unsure how it came to be "Ruralised" and in tasmania. She came down from QLD 5 years ago.

Had her up bush and on the beach, does the job thats for sure

Haha G'day Shane,

Yea funny how these things just turn up! Got my eye on a little 1300 deluxe and a lowlight devon camper at the moment, ah decisions decisions

Pumba - April 11th, 2010 at 07:53 PM

A lowlight devon camper sounds good:tu:

Joel - April 11th, 2010 at 08:12 PM

those minilite rims only have an offset suitable for lifting anyway

scrub to much on a lowered super

ryana89 - April 12th, 2010 at 01:27 PM

Gday again,
I keep coming back and liking the look of this bug more and more.
Do you know whats been done to make it look the way it does?
Any suspensions mods or playing around with offsets or have the Minilite rims been simply bolted on?
One last question, do you know what size Minilite rims they are?

Thankyou:tu:

waveman1500 - April 12th, 2010 at 09:15 PM

G'day mate! Nice Super. The high-altitude ride height reminds me of mine.

http://i386.photobucket.com/albums/oo304/waveman1500/Superbug/P1000741.jpg

Were they really this tall from the factory? Mine doesn't look quite right, but I highly doubt that it would have ever had any suspension mods to lift it. I'm planning to drive mine around a bit first and see how it handles before I worry about lowering, but they do seem awfully high! I've got a minimum of about 25cm ground clearance.

Joel - April 13th, 2010 at 01:02 PM

Mark, yours and Will's are both stock height at the front
its just oversize tyres exaggerating it

but looking at the back both of them look like there lifted 1 outter spline, probably to stop the tyres scrubbing

Ryan i think 4x130 minilites only come in 15x6

Rural Baja - April 13th, 2010 at 06:35 PM

I reckon she has been lifted at the rear, makes it good on the beach thats for sure! Only thing is it makes it a bit wild in the wet ive found. probably not a great tyre combo either.

It looks bloody neat that red bug, any more pictures?

And the rims are 15x6. With nice Wiiide tyres :D

waveman1500 - April 14th, 2010 at 12:41 AM

Thanks Joel, that's an interesting bit of information. I wouldn't describe my tyres as oversize though, if anything they're slightly smaller diameter than stock, 195/70R14 on 14x6" rims. I don't think mine would have been lifted at the rear either though, as it came on stock rims when I bought it and in my experience 195s don't scrub anyway.

Rural Baja, I've got plenty more pictures mate, the build thread link is in my signature. The Superbug is mostly on page 2: http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=80860&page=2  The car hasn't been driven in several years, but it should be ready to hit the streets by the end of the month. I'm very excited!

Forgive my naivety... but what is that little round plug looking thing on the bottom of the c pillar? .. nearly looks like an aftermarket LPG filler

bad choice of words i should have just said wider
the wider rims but thinner sidewall makes the gaurd gap look bigger

it would have in 38 years had the rear torsion bushings replaced, some mechanics oftern reset the tosion bars when doing this as they tend to sag over the years

cos IRS bugs dont camber out as much as swingers with weight in the back tyres often rub on the gaurds with 2 people in the back

mine even with 185/70 14" used to

pretty sure will said that thing was on LPG in a passed life in another thread

Thats a nice super you got there, there is something about S beetles that make them more apealling than L's
I hate to say it but I must really be living at the wrong end of the state when it comes to VWs

Very true Joel, and actually now that my Type 3 is back on stock cheese-cutters it does look a lot lower.
