Hi well i had an interesting day today was told about this 1955 oval thats been in a shed for about 8+ years current owner and around 20+ years in the
origanal owners shed that was now up for sale. This thing just seems almost to good to be true origanal sales book, 75000 miles never been welded as
no rust and no bog the body was striped and repainted some 8 years ago has all new trim headlining carpets seats redone etc all new rubbers etc it
just needs putting back together.
Let me know what you all think does it seem to be a good car? What sort of money would it be worth?
WOW!
10k?
baja it, na jks that is one neat lookin rust free bug
Due, don't wait, make an offer and get it to your place before anyone else does. I dream of finding an opportunity like this.
Yes the hole car is complete evan the origanal number plates all the wheels are dated 2/55 etc.
I would think not much more needs to be spent but does need new tyres, battery and bumper bars need to be recromed thats about it. There are dockets for thousands spent on the new uphoulstery for the seats and carpets rubber seals its all there just assemble and go like a big meccano set
You lucky, lucky bastard.
What a great find. I would easily pay 8k for it if its all there and as good as the photos look. It doesn't cost anything to put back together, so
you will have a complete car for 8k (give or take a little).
Kev
Yep its all there evan the badge in the steering wheel is like new as are the headlights tailights etc plus an adaptor to fit up to the vw motor so
you can start motors when out of the car as well as some extras 4x wheels tail and head lights speedo alltough they are off a slightly later bug and some books on bugs etc I don't think the photos do the car justice and the
shine on the paint is straight off the gun its never been polished.has a new set of running boards as well as the old ones all new engine bay sound
deading panels new exhaust pluse the old one with the little end tip on it. I had a mate of mine check out the body and paint as he is an auto paint
specialist and gave it a big thumbs up
im in love....
SO have u actualy purchased the a car ???
Woohoo yes i have paid a deposit on this car i can't wait to get it home and start sorting it out Thanks for all the input sofar peaple. I think i will try and find a new wiring harness for it and fit it while it will be easy to access it anyone know where i might be able to get a new wiring harness to origanal spec? Still welcome any input to this car.
Congratulations, but we all want to know how much you paid for this beauty.
I believe buying a new harness off the shelf (so to speak) may be hard as all the ones made OS are for left hand drives.
Kev
*Looking at the pic with the rat poison in it*...Obviously it is not going to be a 'Rat Bug!'
Hi IN2VWS was having a look at your great web site and see one of the accessories brochures circa 1958 that has a pic of the same type weathershield that comes with this car and it list mudflaps as an option to as there is a set of rear mudflaps come with the car as well
teeveezed haha yep no rats here
i recently purchased 2 1954 odd bugs plus spares, 1 of them is identical to yours including the colour,he bought all new gear for it,difference is my
body is still unbolted from the floor and everything is pulled off it as well
i plan on re using the harness in mine, if yours is uncut just leave it.
vwsteve this one is not bolted back on yet its just sitting on the pan.
Top buy mate, hope it all goes together for you, if you buy a new harness they are all Left hand drive, you only need to extend a couple of wires not
real hard, I cleaned the paint and crap off of my origional loom as the outer casing wasnt cracked at all and it cleaned up like new,
good luck with her
That looks like a grate find. if you didnt buy it I would have! Im sure it would be worth $18,000 plus when its back on the road.
Fantastic looking find.
Don't use a new harness, if the car is as good as it looks, the og harness will clean up with some thinners, better than a repro anyday.
Love it.
Try Here for wiring harness

Ok i will look into cleaning up the og wiring harness and check that all conections are good and if all is ok will leave it as is.
vwsteve do you have any pics of your two new oval's?
nah not yet mate, they are staying in his shed untill after i have moved in july, its an absolute twin to yours, top to bottom resto was done, you should put the chrome trim back into your screen rubbers if you can too, looks more original then
Yep will look into fitting those trim back into the screen rubbers as there are still a lot of things to fit up etc i will get there just got to get it home now
Great looking car- do you know what colour it is? original or not
Dave
