Hey wondering if anyone could give me an idea of how much a new paint job would be ???
how long is a piece of string?
it all depends on how much you want to do and what level of quality
What kind of quality are you after?
Show finish or a quick and nasty?
There is quite a few thousand dollars difference in what kind of quality your after.
show finish ???
10000+ then
wow thax
Yeah, the nicer the final finish (and the worse your body was in the first place) the more a paint job will cost. I doubt there's any paint jobs in
the Summernats Elite Hall which cost less than $20k, and there would be several which exceed $50k.
Having said that, there are plenty of ways to paint a car to a respectable finish much more cheaply. If you're prepared to do most of the body prep
yourself, including getting rid of all the rust, applying filler and LOTS of sanding, then it's possible that a bodyshop might paint it for you
cheaply, somewhere between $1000 and $2000, once they've fixed your prepwork, lol. If you just want it to be all the one colour then there are quick
and dodgy paint places who will blow over a car for less than $1000.
If you're handy enough to do it yourself at home, you can get an acceptable finish with about $200 worth of materials if you shop at Paint Supplies.
My mate painted two Minis in $50 worth of red tractor enamel in the one night, but you can definitely tell that they were done dodgy! If he had taken
more time on the prepwork it could have looked okay though. You will need a reasonable spray gun and compressor though. Also, you would need to go for
a solid colour in acrylic. I've tried painting a car in metallic paint outside, and it's NOT a good idea, lol! The finished product was better than
what we started with, but it still looked pretty poor.
Also, last but not least, there is the famous roller method! Google "$50 paint job" and you will find plenty of people who have painted cars with
rollers, sometimes with pretty good results. Be aware that this isn't a quick job though, as a good finish relies on doing hours and hours of
sanding.
2 pac? acrylic? metallic or base colour? clearcoat?
If u were in SEQ, i would be able to refer you to someone.
He was a spraypainter/panel beater, he gave up the career there after finishing his apprenticeship because it was simply too toxic for him. Hes now
working as a coworker at Poolwerx shailer park. He still does pro spray jobs for a hobby for anyone with the money.
$800 and that includes quick sand, any little bog, u provide spray booth, u provide paints, maybe a few other chemicals or sand paper etc, and he does
the rest. He does 2 pac, and acrylic. metallics, pearls the lot. If u want 2 tone or graphics, its more. Well, it was $800 when i first asked him
about a month back.
If u got rust repair, i assume u would want to sort that out yourself though.
it also depends on WHATS under the origional stuff when u have stripped back to bare metal
Could be heaps of hidden treasures n RUST
Yea collegue won't be able to help you much there if much welding is required.
$ keep adding for each suprise. If u did the prep work, im' sure he will do topcoat for $500.
