Hi guys,
Just thought I'd ask if anyone knows what the hole in the top of the tunnel right up near the front firewall is and can I weld it up? My 70 beetles carpet kit even had a hole in it to match so while its getting rust fixed I'd like to fill it in if I won't need it.

How big is it??

I am guessing some one has cut it in there as the lazy way of doing a clutch cable replacement

It's about 32mm across but it appears to be a factory cut hole as it's not sharp like a holesaw cut hole. If thats all it is I'll weld it up bu you have to wonder why the cut through the carpet?
