It has been suggested by the guy who does the major maintainance on my 1302s automatic that we convert it to manual. He has done 3 and says it is not a real big deal. He says parts are getting harder to get for these and may become a real problem in the future. Since we are about to haul out the engine and gearbox it may be a good time. Has anyone had any experience with converting the autos to manual. Apparently it is slightly more straight forward with the 1302 model cause they have rear axles.
Any thoughts or experiences would be great.

It's not a difficult swap, its all just bolt in stuff like trans, axles, shift rod etc and the engine needs a manual flywheel and oil pump fitted and remove all the uneeded crap like servo, oil tanks and lines etc

All semi auto are IRS so it doesnt make any difference there concerning the axles.

The only hard part is if the car doesnt have a clutch cable tube.
You get lucky on most 70s semi autos, they tend to have them but the early 1500s didnt.

Cutting open the tunnel and welding in the tube is a horrible job

Just lift the inspection panel under the rear seat where the coupler is, you will be able to see there if it has an unused clutch cable tube
