Beetle or baja?
AJPerkins - November 24th, 2010 at 08:07 PM

So i got a bit hasty with the angle grinder today and cut off the rear apron. I am.... no hang on, was thinking of Bajaing my 69 bug, but now I am not so sure??
Whats a front clip (mine is shagged) and rear apron worth? or is it worth just going down the baja trail?
Help!! I just don't know what to do??

You can buy fibreglass rear aprons from Sherman in QLD...
advertises in VWAM magazine....

You see fronts for sale on here now & then...
and most probably available new or used...
1968-74 NON Super front valance..
all rear fibreglass valances are the same... late models..

cheers

LEE

PS: I don't really like Baja beetles... lol

Hi there 68 autoBug, as was said depends what look you are after. To stick with the std bug look would be easier, but as with just about any modification it takes time and money, then try to come up with some sort of plan of how you want it to look , then trying to find all the bits and pieces to make it happen. It can be a quite a drawn out process but it is well worth it, my Baja took around 2.5 years , pretty slow but it will always be work in progress ,and the looks you get driveing around are endless, pitty you arent in NSW ive got a few bits lying around, good luck my Baja is in members rides My 1970 Baja. Mick.

Hi
Not to mean You shouldn't make one....
there are lots of Bajas about from standard to wild...
and the people with them wouldn't be without them...

No two bajas are usually the same...

Momah
it took Me 10 years to do My beetle... lol
now that IS a long time... lol
and its still not finished...
still have bits in the cupboard etc... in sheds...

so, its best to make Your Own decision on Baja or Beetle...

having nothing behind the engine means taking the engine out.. or doing repairs is easy....
much much easier than if You have a standard beetle body..

cheers

Momah, your Baja is off the dial, looks amazing!! Lee, your beetle is obviously a labour of love. I just want to learn as much as I can a make the right choice, either way its going to be a long term project and I just want to do it justice. If it is 25% as good as your boy's bugs (plus all the other amazing cars on here!!) then I will be stoked!!

Thats the main problem with Baja fibreglass bits..
they are bulky so being close to pick them up is great..

I see lots of full BAJA kits on E-Bay ...

so keep an eye on E-Bay ..

and the Best part is when You can drive it on the road... lol
