I have to decide in one, both in good condicion

I would go the 71 Super, it would have the older style body coloured metal dash, as I'm not a fan of the black padded dash of the 73 onwards model. Its a personal choice. Maybe write a list of pro's and con's of both, it might help you make the decision!

arh ok... thanks lee! Shows how much I don't know, i was under the assumption that the safety regulations that i've heard about wouldve applied to
all models after the law came in... Thanks for helping to increase what little knowledge I have!!
Thanks all for all advise
Lee, every flat screen bug after 12/72 in Aus had the padded dash cover, it was an ADR requirement.
Kombee, It all depends what you want from the car, for just an average city car either will be fine but the standard will only have a swing axle rear
with low 1300 gearing, drum brakes all around and a 1300 engine if it's still original, although most are 1600 these days so not ideal if you want to
build a performance car.
the ride of quality of the super will be much better as it has IRS, disc brakes, 1600 engine and the strut front end, providing all the bushing are in
good shape.
We have had both a 1300 Beetle and a 1600 Super as everyday cars, and the Super wins easily as a daily driver.
When you have 1600, disc front, IRS, struts etc, the ride and smoothness is easy to maintain. We have a 1971 Super as our newest everyday driver for a
family of four, not a hobby or weekend car, an actual everyday car. Our weekend car is 1964 vintage.
I'm for the '71.
get both.

People remove them as they crack apart or get hacked up badly fitting radios.
The dash is exactly the same underneath, but every 1300 bug with elephants feet and even the last few with tombstones had them.
I've owned several that did, the oldest being a 12/72
Here's a 73 beetle on ebay they would have all been like this originally

Hi
This is a 1300 Twin port bug that owned for a while, 112 xxx chassis number but stamped ??/03 on the ADR plate, drove it to Valla one year.
It had tombstones and a padded dash.
Steve
Get the 1971 Superbug mate. I have a 1972 super (same car basically) and it is my faviourite bug outa any bugs. in my Signature below is what mine is
going to look like when rebuilt.
From Dylan
here is a pic of our 74 standard's dash during its build stage.... padded dash.
