have a problem with buggy build.

adjusters in front beam, put back in torsion leaves, got 3 trailing arms on, but ofcourse the 4th wont go on.

have tried bel
ting it, but it wont line up. ive tried string around the leaves, also masking tape with no luck.

any ideas? or do i have to pull the leaves out and attach the 'difficult arm' then insert it with leaves through adjuster and hope the other arm goes on as it did originally without issue

its been 2 weekends for one arm!

Having one arm started (but not fullly installed/pushed in) and then starting the other (Such that the torsion leaves start sliding into place) is how i did it.

Took alot of grease, whobbling & massage. I had the leaves inside the beam first, then put the torsion arms on.
I didn't have the allen key head lock thingo in the centre tightened (nor fitted until all was slid together)... allowing the leaves to move in and out.

Sometimes one arm would push some leaves through the other side and not align... while some made it in, then tried to 'massage' em in. was a matter of moving the arms around while trying to 'massage' the leave that moved out of place back in. If the arm on the other side is playing hard to get, then i would push some leaves towards the other side a few mm (5-10mm) per leaf allowed for a 'progressive' installation of the leaves as they entered (shaped like a wedge then) whilst still fitted inside the other arm. Sounds confusing, i know...

be careful bashing it in place. the alignment shouldn't need bashing. the installation of the arm once you start usually requires a whack to make it though (Well, i had polyurethane long bushes in mine and were firm.) a mallet did the trick.

Tightly cable tie the leaves together, pop the round cap out of the end of the torsion arm, (push with a long screw driver from the inside and it will pop out) then you can look in and see if you have the leaves lined up with the spline in the arm, then push it in, should work.

The leaves should sit central in the bore, it looks like the adjuster is not welded in square, you could loosen the centre screw in the adjuster and see if it helps

I had the same problem with mine... years ago.. I have read where You should file the square hole to make sure that its clear or any edges ... that will cause the torsion leaves to jam.... Lee

looks great so far but i recon there is a build up of grease between the leaves slide it out about 8 inhes nd clean the excess. tha way you shoud see a neat set of leves stacked. alternatively ut a leading edge on with grinder.

As above, I always champher the edges of the torsion leaves for the second arm to guide onto easier, and definately loosen the centre grub screw, oh....and lots of patience....or is that perservierence (sp?).

Will try taking out the adjuster grub screw and cleaning up the ends of the leaves then cable tie. Fingers crosssed

Cap on the end of the arm? Does the circled part push out??

Mine came out the other week when i was installing my adjusters. Just push out and peen back over when done.

Success, but still far from easy. Ended up having to pull the torsion leaves completely out, and as they wouldnt go in the problem arm i went in reverse, and pushed the leaves through the arm into the beam, through adjuster and fitted the 'easy' arm.

getting the cap off was key information!!

finally can start to build the brakes!
