Yesterday I purchased a 1300 Deluxe Beetle for my dad as a resto project (He paid for mine, so its only right that I paid for his ) The previous owner told us that it is a 63, then when we came over to buy it He told us that it is a 67 (It is a pre 68 shape), so we checked behind the spare wheel at the metal plaque, which said the following.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

go by the number on the tunnel under the seat, as this is the one the department of transport in your area goes by. the plate can be changed easily as they are only pop riveted on.

Cool, I'll have a look under the seats.

I looked at the number on the floorpan, the number said 197-591880, I checked the list of Australian VIN numbers on Mick Motors which tells me the car was manufactured between Dec 66 to July 67.
