hi guys, i've had a look around and i'm stuck.
my bug needs an age, its going over the pits soon.
*195102220* is my vin, the Samba says its a '58 but its got too many numbers, the PO says its a '64, but the third number rule says its a '65, or
is it actually a 1951 car? anyone got a better idea? which one is right or are they all wrong?
cheers jon
That's an aussie chassis number which is why it doesn't make sense on overseas sites.
9 denotes Aus assembled and 5 is 65.
have a look at the rear of the speedo it will have a MY date on it
a good indictor but not gospel as it may have been replaced but a quick guide to the year
AA-HA!! the speedo is stamped 12-64, so its possibly a 64 like the last owner says, or is it DEFINITLEY a '65 cos the chassis number states that?
when did they change the date stamp? Jan 1st or August like in Europe and the US?
more questions than answers! cheers guys.
Geeez Jon sick of nose bleeds from the 16 inch?People might start thinking you were conforming to the rest of society driving a bug Like Joel said pretty sure its a 65, my 66 chassis no
starts with 19666

thanks guys, i'll put 1965 on the paper work when i pit the beast. i'm not conforming in any way, heres the pics of my bug!
and the answer to the chicken / egg question, the egg came first, as to make an egg you need TWO chickens, but to make a chicken you only need one
egg, ps there wasnt just 1 egg, there were a few (at least 2 to make more chooks to make more eggs!)
there is a bonnet but i was busy when i took this one!
