Hello Dubbers,

Was making an inquiry into a second hand gearbox for the S bug (see "Gearbox Options" post) and neither me nor the owner know to much about it. He did text me this info that he got from the gearbox ID I think. Could some one please decipher it and tell me if it will go into my 71 S bug.

DC 1500/1600, 4,125 ratio. Type 3 with IRS from 8/68.

I can understand most of it but I'm not exactly sure if it will slot into my car until I get my gearbox rebuilt.

Yes it will fit but you will need to check the location for the grub screw on the selector shaft as type1 (connects from above) & type3 (connects from below) differ. If you still have the original gearbox, then these parts are interchangable.
