New to forum - Beetle overhaul - any pointers

Hey Everyone

So happy I found this forum, so far so many of my questions have been answered.

I have just got a 70 Beetle on a 65 chassis (made in Australia) which I am going to completely strip down and fix up.
It has been around 8 years since I owned my last VW so I am very rusty Smile and I have never completely re built a beetle before.
So Any advice would be appreciated.

So far I have taken out all of the interior including flooring, roof lining, etc.... and I plan on taking the body off very soon.
I am going to replace all rubbers/seals along with a install a brand new engine, trans, clutch, etc......

So far I have found rust in these places
- Heater channels both sides (only near where the vents sit in on the floor)
- Rear window pillar (both sides )
- Spare wheel area - only at the bottom where it sits)

My question is, is that a common place for the rust to show and is it fixable?
Is there anything that I should really look out for?

Also I want to get a new engine/trans/clutch - anyone have any tips on what may be suited, this will be a daily driver on both normal and highway roads. I was thinking a 1800 or slightly bigger (TURNKEY would be preferred)

And if anyone has any other info they think would be useful I would love to hear it!

Thanks in advance!!!

In my opinion the best thing to do would be install the original type of pan with the ball joint front end, this will give you disc brakes and dual circuit master cylinder.
