I am looking for a 1500 engine and transmission to suit a 1970 beetle can anyone recommend a supplier in Qld or NSW

Look here for the list of Volkswagen businesses who support the VW Nationals. Any of them with 'VW' or "veedub' in the name can help you. Give some of them a ring:

Also buy the latest copy of VWMA in the newsagents and look for VW business ads at a location near you.
